Council supports local produce
A list of local growers and sellers has been published by the District Council. The Council has produced the list to encourage support for local businesses and to reduce the distance that food needs to be transported, saving on fuel and carbon emissions.
Watercress farmer Terry Tyler from Sarratt Bottom said:
"The watercress season will start again in a couple of weeks. Local produce is fresh - if you buy something from a supermarket it might be three or four days old. Why buy watercress imported from Portugal or America when you can buy it from Sarratt? We supply local markets and individual residents who call."
Three Rivers Director of Leisure and Environment, Peter Brooker, said:
"We have some tremendous small businesses in Three Rivers growing produce ranging from beef to herbs and honey. By buying local produce we are not only supporting the economy but also reducing the energy and cost involved in transportation."
The list can be viewed on theĀ Local Produce and Retail Outlets page or is available by ringing the Council on 01923 776611 (minicom 01923 727 303)
