PR Reference No.: Council awarded Disability Symbol
Jobcentre Plus in Hertfordshire has awarded the Disability Symbol to Three Rivers District Council in recognition of their excellent employment practices in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities.
The Disability Symbol is given to employers who pledge to meet five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of people with disabilities.
Sandra Wood, Disability Employment Adviser for Jobcentre Plus in Watford, said:
"Jobcentre Plus is thrilled to be presenting the Disability Symbol to the council. By using the symbol it makes it clear that applications from people with disabilities are welcome and that Three Rivers District Council are positive about people's abilities. It also shows existing employees that their contribution is valued and they will be treated fairly should they become disabled."
The District Council's Chief Executive, Steven Halls, says:
"We are delighted to be awarded the Disability Symbol from Jobcentre Plus. Having the Symbol tells people not only that we welcome applications from people with disabilities, but also that we are committed to supporting all existing members of staff with a disability. We are a fair and inclusive employer and we work hard to support all our staff, and it is very gratifying that this has been recognised."
Three Rivers District Council was established in 1974 by combining the former Urban Districts of Rickmansworth and Chorleywood with part of the Rural District of Watford. The main offices are located in Rickmansworth in Three Rivers House, opened in 1991.
Over 5000 small, medium and large employers from both public and private sector organisations all over the UK are currently Disability Symbol holders.
