Corporate Governance

Corporate Governance is the system by which local authorities direct and control their functions and relate to their communities.

The Council’s Code of Corporate Governance is based on guidance provided by the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in their publication “Corporate Governance in Local Government : A Keystone for Community Governance”

It builds on the principles identified by the Cadbury Report and the Nolan Committee.

The Council must be able to demonstrate that it is complying with the underlying principles of good governance, which are:

  • Openness and inclusivity
  • Intergity
  • Accountability
