Three local charities have received cheques for £2,500 following a energetic year of fundraising by Three Rivers District Council's ex-Chairman, Councillor Harry Davies.

Staff from Watford Peace Hospice, disability charity DEMAND and the Alzheimer's Society received the cheques at Three Rivers House on Tuesday.

Alan Stokes from the Abbots Langley-based charity, DEMAND, said:

"DEMAND is trully delighted to have been one of the three charities that Harry Davies has selected during his year as Chair. We are most grateful for the donation he has made. One in six people lcoally are disabled. This money will help us increase the number of children and adults with disablities who we can help."

Ex-Chairman Councillor Davies said:

"These three charities help people in great need and it was a privilege to support them during my year of office. I wish Councillor Major every success with this year's fundraising."

Current Chairman, Councillor David Major, is fundraising for the Hospice of St Francis during his year of office. Details about Councillor Major's fundraising events will be publicised during the year.
