Care and Repair Grant
Home repair assistance is available to help pay for small-scale repairs, improvements or adaptations to your home. This grant is always discretionary.
You can apply for a grant if you:
- Are aged over 18
- Live in the dwelling as your only or main residence, or be applying for the benefit of a person who is 60 years old or more, or disabled, or infirm.
- Are an owner-occupier or private tenant or have a right of exclusive occupation of the property for at least five years.
- Have a power or duty to carry out the building works.
- Be aged 60 or more, or disabled, or infirm, or in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Income support
- Housing benefit
- Family credit
- Council tax benefit
- Disability working allowance
- Job seekers allowance
If you are neither an owner-occupier nor tenant but have right of exclusive occupation of the property, you must have lived in the property for at least 3 years before you can apply for home repairs assistance unless:
- The works are for fire precautions or to enable an elderly, infirm or disabled person to be cared for or
- The property is in a local authority renewal area
The maximum amount of assistance that can be paid is £5,000 as a once and only payment per dwelling.
If you would like to apply for a grant, you will be required to explore obtaining private finance before the Council will consider providing grant aid.
