Bulky Waste

Bulky Waste The Council offers a special collection service for large household items such as beds, tables, armchairs and ovens. The scheme is for household items only. No fixtures and fittings, such as baths and radiators can be collected via this service.

New laws on electronics - People in the UK throw away over 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) every year - this is equivalent to the weight of 150,000 double decker buses. Most of the waste is thrown into landfill and the problem is increasing by 5% per year. A new European directive means that these items must now be collected separately and recycled.

The current charges for the bulky waste are below. Please note that we no longer charge separately for electrical items.

  • £27.50 for 1 - 3 items.
  • £50 for 4 - 6 items.
  • For those in receipt of benefit there is a charge of £13.75 for between 1 and 3 items and £25 for between 4 and 6 items Note: Benefit claimants can only receive two reduced rate collections in any single financial year.

Fluorescent tubes, regardless of amount, will be charged as one item.

You are asked to leave the items outside the front of your property as there is no insurance for any damage that may be caused by entering a private property. We will collect the items within seven working days of receipt of your payment. You will receive a telephone call two days before the collection takes place to advise you of when to place the items out. We will collect any time between 7am and 5pm on the given day.
