Brown Bins and Kitchen Caddies
Each property has been issued with a brown bin for waste that can be composted. And a kitchen caddy to help separate food waste. Please only use the brown bin for the items listed below:
- ALL raw and cooked food scraps / peelings (including bones)
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Envelopes (not with plastic windows)
- Shredded paper
- Toilet & kitchen roll centres
- Egg cartons
- Cardboard food packaging (including cereal packets)
- Brown cardboard
- Grass cuttings
- Woody prunings (max diameter 3" / 80mm)
- Real Christmas trees
- Straw / hay (including the bedding of small animals eg hamsters)
Food waste can be wrapped in newspaper or in cardboard boxes such as cereal boxes. Caddy bags are on sale at various locations throughout the district. The bags are on sale for £2.50 for a roll of 52.
However please do not use plastic bags, whether they are bio-degradable or not.

The brown bin is collected weekly.
Any household wishing to dispose of extra garden waste can have a second brown bin emptied for a charge of £104 per year. Please complete and return the Application Form.

Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued to residents that persistently and wilfully put the wrong items in their brown bin.
The brown bin must be left at the property boundary by 6am on the day of collection.

Elderly, infirm and disabled residents who have no other resident to help them move the bin may apply for an assisted collection. The bin must still be visible and the front of the property but does not have to be moved to the boundary. To apply for this service please download the Application Form below.
