Chairman supports Armed Forces Day
Date:
25 June 2012
The Armed Forces flag was raised at Three Rivers House this morning (Monday 25 June) in honour of Armed Forces Day this Saturday (30 June).
Armed Forces Day aims to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. It gives people the opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops and Service families to veterans to cadets.
Armed Forces Day itself takes place on Saturday 30 June 2012. Speaking ahead of Armed Forces Day, The Chairman of Three Rivers District Council Councillor Kemal Butt said:
“I would like to pay tribute to all the courageous men and women who have served in the past and and those currently serving in our armed forces today.
“They do a fantastic job working in extremely difficult conditions and it is right that we recognise their contribution. I would also like to give thanks to the tremendous social groups that veterans have formed and run, such as the Royal British Legion.”
Ivan Gurney, of the Rickmansworth Royal British Legion, added; “It’s important that we show our support to troops and veterans. They have done a great service to this country and this gives us an opportunity to thank them.”
