Adopted Roads and Highways

Road adoption usually concerns minor and residential roads and is the responsibility of Hertfordshire Highways (Hertfordshire County Council).

The Highways Act 1980 lays down the process for a highway authority to adopt a road.

Hertfordshire Highways has produced a design guide, 'Roads in Hertfordshire - a guide for new developments' that gives details of the design and construction standards that must be met before adoption can take place.
