It's Our Theatre
13-19s Hip-Hop Project in South Oxhey
It’s Our Theatre (IOT) empowers young people to lead and produce their own cultural events through hip-hop art forms, developing and owning their own arts infrastructure. Coordinated by arts organisation Theatre Is and delivered with the Eastpak Throwdown Crew, IOT provides an alternative path for young people aged between 13-19 who may be isolated, disadvantaged, unengaged or uninspired.
Originally piloted in Norfolk in 2008, IOT it went on to win the 2012 Inspire Mark for it's delivery in Thurrock and it's now coming to Three Rivers...
Road shows + Workshops = Slam Night
Throughout February the Throwdown Crew will be in schools and community settings in and around South Oxhey with high energy road shows featuring performances from award winning hip-hop dancers and rappers to recruit young people onto the project.
Next, 50 young people will participate in three nights of hip-hop workshops with professional artists and create their own brand newwork, which may include dance, rap and other musical performance or graffiti art. The workshops will take place at SO Youth in The Centre and ASCEND in All Saints Church Centre, both on Gosforth Lane in South Oxhey.
On Friday 12 March the young people will run and perform their own slam night event. This will feature the culmination of the week’s workshops as well as guest spots from the professional team and will be an opportunity to showcase new skills and performance pieces to friends and family.
Later on in the year young people who participated in the project will have the opportunity to enter into the County Slam.
